Cold and Flu Prevention and Recovery

We all get sick. When we do our bodies ask us to slow down and rest. If you listen to these signals you will most likely recover in no time. Here are a few tips to help your body's healing process along and to make you more comfortable during recovery.

Broth

. Sip it slowly and constantly. I love to water down some bone broth  and add spices like turmeric, ginger and honey. Sometimes I whirl in a healthy fat like ghee or coconut oil, especially if I'm experiencing a decrease in appetite.

. You can also use some bone broth in my Turmeric Tea Latte

Oil of Oregano

. Promotes healthy digestive flora, which means a healthy immune system. I prefer to take it in capsule form, but you can also take the oil directly. Just be careful, the oil can burn your lips!

. Take it at the first sign of a tickle in the throat or ache that might be related to a cold or flu. Take 1-2 capsules per day until you're feeling better.

Take it easy on your Tummy

. You want your energy to be going towards fighting whatever is causing you to feel unwell. If you eat foods that are hard to digest it takes energy away from the important work of your immune system.

. Avoid fried foods, excessive amounts of caffeine, sugar and dairy.

. Enjoy cooked nourishing foods like soups, roasted vegetables, whole grain toast, rice, oatmeal, scrambled eggs and uncomplicated smoothies. Keep it simple and listen to your body.

Probiotics

. A strong gut means a strong immune system. Assist the good bacteria in your gut to flourish by taking a probiotic. Here are two of my favorites: Renew Life Ultimate Flora, and Garden of Life Primal Defense.

Use a Sick Day

. This is probably my favorite tip of all. This is what sick days are for! Treat your body, mind and soul with Love because you deserve it!

. Sometimes it helps to think about what advice you would give to a loved one when they are sick and apply it to yourself.

Always consult with your physician or other qualified health care provider before embarking on a new treatment or supplement. You should never disregard medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you have read on my site.
